Introduction

Prior to the 90’s, the one single parish council of the Church, responsible for planning the future directions of the Church and along with it, the implementation of purposeful and appropriate activities, carried out the combination of pastoral and coordinating functions.  To avoid the Council from spending too much time on coordinating present parish activities and hence, neglect of larger concerns about the Church's mission; and to incorporate more lay leadership into the daily functioning of the parish, the Archdiocesan Plan in the 90’s gave rise to 3 important councils / committees. They are:

  1. The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC)
  2. The Parish Co-ordinating Council (PCC)
  3. The Parish Finance Committee (PFC)

In Assumption Church PJ, the three Councils/Committees were formed from late 1992 and 1993.  The Parish Council was dissolved and under the able guidance of the then Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Volle, the Parish Coordinating Council was set up in 1993.

Together, these committees form the pillar of the Church and are tasked with the planning, coordinating and financing of the parish’s activities with Christ’s mission firmly in mind. These can range from the organizing of parish censuses, coordinating parish celebrations, and providing catechetical services, to consultation, research, clarifying the parish mission, anticipating future needs, and developing plans to meet those needs.
