Leaders Formation on 20th January 2007

113 leaders of various Ministries and BECs gathered together at the Assumption Family House to attend the Leaders Formation held on the 20th of January. The morning passed at a fast pace, starting with the leaders spending time with the Lord in morning prayer followed by a session on the New Image of the Parish (NIP) Programme given by Fr. Phillips Muthu. The objective of this was to enable the leaders to have an initial understanding of the purpose of implementing NIP, the approach to be taken and the implications on the responsibilities of the Ministries and BECs to communicate and implement the ‘Church as a Mystery of Communion’. 

A deeper understanding of the meaning of Communion was shared by John Chin the PPC chairperson. The need to make time and care for each other was emphasized. The encyclical written by the Holy Father called the ‘Novo Millennio Inuente’ (NMI) was referred to, presenting 4 points for reflection on ‘A Spirituality of Communion’. These were:

  1. Contemplation of the Trinity in our heart: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is a God of Communion, who dwells in us.
  2. We need to contemplate the face of Christ in each other, especially those in need.
  3. To see what is positive in others, to treasure as a gift from God.
  4. To know how to ‘make room’ for others – bearing each others’ burden (Gal 6:2) and resisting selfish temptation’

There was also some fun and laughter when the participants were asked to look into each others eyes for some time as an exercise in communion. During the Questions and Answer session, there were some sharings by participants on the need for inner conversion for leaders to be committed and passionate about serving the Lord.

Special events in the 2007 parish calendar were highlighted before the formation ended with a special rededication service conducted by Sr. Jane and blessings given by the Parish Priest. When asked, many participants said that they had found the formation to be very good.
