The Young Answer His Call
The Assumption Youth Ministry or better called as AYM is as new as a baby chick waiting to revive its flames to youths of 13 years old and above. We aim to draw more youths to experience Jesus, to serve and lead others through their God-given talents and skills. A range of activities has been lined up to draw youths to accept the call to serve God.
Fun activities are organized to keep the youth on the move, embarking on a journey of self-discovery and getting to know Christ in our lives. These activities also ensure everybody has a fun time getting up-close & personal with Christ, watching movies or bowl with newfound friends, as well as getting a hands-on experience at organizing exciting events.
Come discover yourself and experience Faith in Action through our energy-filled activities that bring different yet unique individuals together. Your contribution will be most welcome by us, and yes, Jesus Himself.
What We Did in 2006 and early 2007
Me, Myself &??? Camp (2 – 4 June)
The Me, Myself & ??? Camp drew forty young ones to discover themselves and God’s undying love for us. Held at the Good Shepherd Seminary in Malacca, Kenneth, our advisor, Angela Soyza, catechism teacher and the Willing Hands team facilitated the sessions. Among other activities held during the camp were outdoor games, dancing, treasure hunt and sightseeing of the Malacca town.
Assumption Family Day (31 August)
A bunch of dramatic youths utilized their individual to put together a skit for the Assumption Family Day. The skit brought out the message of fatherly love and forgiveness in families that is realistically happening in the world today. Touching many hearts, the group was applauded for their effort in their performance.
Coffee Morning (27 August)
The attempt to raise more funds for AYM saw willing youths working and seeking sponsorship for food and drinks. Their time and effort paid off through a successful Coffee Morning that raised a substantial amount that will be handy for future AYM activities.
Assumption Ball (October)
A group of sixteen youths staged a musical called A Full Life. The musical featured a teenage girl whose life was packed with so many things that she was easily influenced to trade the very essentials of life such as family, involvement in the youth ministry and prayer time for worldly things. Ending with a dance, the musical received very good response from the Assumption parishioners.
Christmas Musical (24 December)
The Christmas Musical was done with a difference this year, straying away from the usually staged Christmas play. This time the birth of Christ was seen through a shepherd’s sharing with his daughter of what he experienced from being present at the stable when Christ was born. AYM teamed up with the Assumption Choir who played the songs in the musical, creating a uniquely crafted musical that brought the message of Christ’s precious birth to this world.
Sale of Easter Goodies
Having to sell our infamous Hot Cross Buns on Holy Thursday, AYM managed to raise an adequate amount from the sales. Living up to its name, the Hot Cross Buns were sold out on Holy Thursday. The funds raised will be channeled for upcoming events and activities organized.
Pentecost Rally (26 May)
The first ever Pentecost Rally gathered six youth groups comprising the AYM, Willing Hands, Assumption Praise Ministry, Assumption Sing-Out Ministry, Alpha Youth and the Charismatic Prayer Group to team up and draw youths to experience the Holy Spirit. The Pentecost Rally drew 200 youths ranging from 13 years old to 39 years old. The rally, a whole day event, began with the afternoon catered solely for youths followed by praise and worship and ended with the Pentecost Midnight Mass.
Ministry Awareness Day (16 – 17 June)
Using a ‘Hawaiian’ theme, the AYM set up a booth to promote the ministry to invite more youths to participate with other youths of all ages, with the purpose to serve God through given talents. The colourful decorations were an attraction not only among youths but parents as well.
