Children Need Love & Religious Guidance Too

What is Our Mission?

The Sunday School (SS) at the Church of the Assumption comprise of active church-going Catholics who believe they have been called to share their faith through the direct catechesis of young Catholics. We live and declare the passion our own faith by taking an active involvement in the spiritual formation of these children. Our mission is to help the faith of children become living, conscious and active through the light of instruction.

Who are our Teachers?

Our teachers and their assistants are 100% volunteers, some with a background in teaching but mostly with a sincere desire to serve the Lord by sharing their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith with these young ones. To develop their own formation as well as their teaching skills, they attend on-going formation and courses organized by the Catechetical Committee headed by the Spiritual Advisor. In addition, they attend the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) course held throughout the year.

Currently there are about 88 teachers tending to the needs of 1300 students. Our Sunday School classes begin from pre-school and end with Form 5 to coincide with the confirmation of born Catholics.

Lesson Structure

All teachers are provided with a Catechist’s Teaching Guide to ensure each lesson is prepared and taught effectively.  The syllabus and textbooks used for our lessons are directly adapted to suit the different ages from the Catechism of the Catholic Church approved by the Archdiocese of KL

Room for sharing and for activities is also built into the lessons to encourage dialogue and a livelier environment for the children to thrive. While we teach it is pertinent to note that we too are students as children can be wonderfully enlightening.

A gentle note to all parents:
Gates open at 9.40am for all children to avoid unforeseen incidents that may occur should a child who has entered the school grounds early, be left wandering alone without the knowledge and thus, supervision of a teacher.
