Dear Friends,

It has been 50 years of God's intervention in our lives, of joys and strengths; 50 years of remembering God's manifold blessings upon us. It is now time for us to respond to God's faithfulness to us and to celebrate the 50 years He has given us.

Our parish began on August 15th 1959. It was established to cater for the Celebration of the Eucharist and to minister to the Catholics in Petaling Jaya. It was a small community, with a few schools and a small Assunta Hospital, surrounded by estates and in the midst of this small town with sundry shops. Today it is a suburb and city. The Parish, that was a small community, has in leaps and bounds grown into a full matured community.

15th August 2008 to 15th August 2009 is now "payback" time. We want to thank God for His kindness and faithfulness to us. For this Assumption has drawn up a program, where we want to intensify our actions to strengthen the Family, BEC and alleviate POVERTY. How are we going to do it? - By being faithful in Praying the Word, Applying the Word and Working together as a Community. This is a simple way and method of how a Word-Based Community can live in all spheres of life.

Since last year we have been trying to "live out" in a special way the words, 'The Word was the Source of Life and this Life brought Light to the World.' John 1:4. We will continue this same theme by making the Word our way of life and thus a life to be shared with one another.

Let us then, as a Family and BEC light our lamps and be ever ready to contribute towards building our communityand God's Kingdom and continue to thank Him for His graces and blessings. To help us to do this we should keep in mind the words of our Mother 'Do whatever He tells you', and by doing so our endeavours will certainly be enormously blessed.

May this Jubilee bring about manifold Blessings on the Parish of Assumption.
